Uniweld Inc. was founded by Robert “Bob” McHardy.  In 1984, having already had 20 years of experience in the steel industry as a Local 7 Iron worker and small business owner, Bob took another chance at being an owner of his own firm.  Since Bob had already been erecting steel for several fabricators throughout New England, he had established a reputation for his expertise in steel erecting, along with a managing a skillful and competent crew.

In the 1990’s many local steel-erecting companies including Uniweld Inc., faced a slowdown in work due to the economic changes.  In order to survive the economic change, Uniweld, Inc. began concentrating on the firm’s current specialty, steel fabrication.  Uniweld, Inc. continued to provide quality craftsmanship and maintain a stable and reliable business.

In the summer of 1983, Bob began to pass his expertise along to his son Pat.  At the age of 15, Pat worked along side his father during school and summer vacations, learning the ins and outs of the steel business.  He began his career as an oiler of cranes and worked his way into the fabricating and erecting of steel.  Ultimately, Pat became his father’s right hand man and the shop’s foreman.

In 2007, after 43 years in the steel business, Bob retired and sold Uniweld, Inc to his son.  With 23 plus years of his own experience in the steel business, Pat continues to fabricate and install quality steel products to repeat reputable general contractors and residential customers.  Our company has had the opportunity to provide its skills and experience to high-end commercial entities throughout New England.  Uniweld, Inc’s. project portfolio, to name just a few, includes Boston College, Boston University, Barnes and Noble Stores, Brook Pharmacy Stores, Polcari’s, Pizzeria Regina Restaurants, Linden Square Shopping Center, Johnson and Wales and Eddie Bauer Stores.
